Mindfulness emerged out of buddhist, a 2500 year old study of the mind and how our experience of suffering is created and alleviated. It is extremely helpful in a nuts and bolts sort of way to begin to wake up to habits and patterns of thinking and behaving that either serve us or do not. With kindness and gentle humor we can begin together to explore these patterns and make choices about the way forward into vibrant health and well-being. I have studied Buddhism for over 20 years in both the Tibetan and the Zen traditions. The program in which I received my Masters degree from Naropa University was deeply rooted in developing a stability in the mind when encountering challenging circumstances through meditation practices. It is not necessary to be a buddhist to benefit from many of the skills Buddhist practice offers.
